Before Moses became the one to part the Red Sea and triumphantly lead the Israelites out of Egypt, he was a boy who grew up as a dual citizen, without a father, watching his biological people suffer at the hands of his adopted people. He was a man who attempted to help, and he was rejected. He was a man who struggled with shame. Shame hides in our souls—in the abuse or trauma we experience or in the long string of failures and disappointments life throws our way. It becomes the author of who we are and what we do. But in the midst of our shame, God finds us and heals us.
The events of the book of Exodus are probably the most quoted and referenced stories of the entire Bible. In fact, it might not be too much of a stretch to say that in order to truly understand Jesus, you need to know and understand the Book of Exodus. Beginning this week and stretching throughout the fall, we will be studying the book of Exodus on Sundays. Exodus is the story about rediscovering who God is, not just back then but for you and me today. Join us as we introduce the book of Exodus and rediscover God.
