In the biblical imagination, the concept of the “world” is what we would call in our language today “culture”. Aspects of all human cultures based on rebelling against God that appeal to the rebellious parts of our hearts. How can we keep from being overtaken by “the world”.
In the season of Lent we seek to formally practice what should be a regular pattern in the life of every Jesus follower, specifically the concepts of repentance, self-denial, and dependence on God. It's a way of reminding us that our lives should bear the shape of the cross, while maintaining an everlasting hope of the resurrection. This sermon series revisits the ancient story of humanity’s temptation in the garden of Eden, as we seek to repent from the ways that we give into temptation and trust God more.
